Students in grades 5-8 may participate in the basketball program. The teams play in the Sunday Youth Basketball League Home to Basketball Players and Cheerleaders representing our fine Southern Maryland Catholic Elementary and Middle Schools.  Games are played from November through the end of February mostly on Sundays.  Players participate in as many as three tournaments with the final one generally in March.

The purpose of this program is to provide an environment where players learn teamwork, camaraderie and sportsmanship while learning and using basketball skills.

OLSS fields both Boys and Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams.  Varsity is generally composed of 7th and 8th graders with some 6th graders as team size and skill level permit.  Junior Varsity is typically composed of 5th and 6th graders with some 4th graders as team size permits.

OLSS does not have its own gym facility and plays its home games at St. Mary’s Ryken High School in Leonardtown, MD.  Practices are generally held two afternoon/evenings two days per week using several facilities in the local area.

The OLSS basketball program is self-supporting and each player is required to pay a registration fee. In addition there are various small fundraising activities which players and parents are asked to volunteer for and support.  The fees pay generally for practice time at various facilities and for other league requirements.

Our coaches are volunteers and give many hours of service to our youth. Good sportsmanship is required from players and fans.
